Active Essex

Active Essex is the Physical Activity and Sport Partnership for Essex and work collaboratively with local partners to ensure the power of physical activity and sport can transform lives. Our vision is to create an active Essex to improve everyone’s health and wellbeing by working together across systems to make physical activity a part of everyday life.

The role of parents and carers is vital in ensuring our young people have exposure to ‘a movement-rich’ environment and experience. We know that physical activity has a hugely positive impact on physical development, physical health, social skills and emotional heath. At Active Essex, we embrace the impact of physical activity and want to support parents and carers in accessing some fantastic groups, spaces and ideas to give young children the best possible start to their journeys.

Toddlers (1-2 years):

Toddlers should spend at least 180 minutes (3 hours) per day in a variety of physical activities at any intensity, including active and outdoor play, spread throughout the day; more is better.

Pre-schoolers (3-4 years):

Pre-schoolers should spend at least 180 minutes (3 hours) per day in a variety of physical activities spread throughout the day, including active and outdoor play. More is better; the 180 minutes should include at least 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity.
